Child Psychology

Gentle support for your child's feelings, behaviour and development, with guidance for the whole family.

Child Psychology in Tirur

Some children show their worries loudly, through tantrums or big reactions. Others go quiet. Their feelings may be silent, but they still need care and understanding. Child psychology at Early Nest helps us understand what sits behind a child's behaviour, so we can support them early, gently and at their own pace.

We work with children and their families together. Through play, conversation and careful observation, we look at emotions, behaviour and development as a whole. Because speech, behaviour, sensory and special education support all happen under one roof in Tirur, emotional wellbeing becomes part of your child's wider plan, not a separate problem.

What we work on

Areas child psychology can help with

  • Understanding feelings

Helping children notice, name and share what they feel, using play, stories and simple activities that suit their age and stage.

  • Feelings behind behaviour

Looking calmly at what may be driving tantrums, anger or withdrawal, and linking with behaviour therapy when a more structured plan would help.

  • Worries and fears

Supporting children who seem worried, clingy, easily upset or nervous about new places, people or changes in routine.

  • Confidence and coping

Helping children feel more confident and settled with family, friends and school, with group sessions as a possible next step.

  • Developmental concerns

Spotting emotional and developmental challenges early, and linking with speech, behaviour and special education support when a child needs more.

  • Parent guidance and counselling

Listening to your concerns and giving clear, practical ideas you can use at home, so progress continues between sessions.

Who it can help

  • Emotional challenges
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Worries and fears
  • Emotional support for autism or ADHD
  • Shyness or very quiet children
  • Developmental concerns
  • Parents seeking guidance

Signs your child may benefit

  • Your child has frequent, intense tantrums or meltdowns that are hard to settle.
  • They seem unusually worried, fearful or clingy, or get upset by small changes.
  • They are very quiet or withdrawn, or speak very little with people outside the family.
  • They find it hard to play with other children or make friends.
  • You notice changes in mood, sleep, eating or behaviour (it is also worth checking with your child's doctor).
  • You simply feel unsure how to help, and would like someone to talk it through with.

A general guide, not a diagnosis. If you are unsure, an assessment can bring clarity.

How it works

Child Psychology at Early Nest

  1. Talk and listen

We start by hearing from you about your child, their routines, strengths and the concerns that brought you to Early Nest.

  2. Observe and assess

Through play and gentle observation, we try to understand your child's feelings, behaviour and development, without pressure or labels.

  3. Build a plan together

We agree on simple, individualised goals and decide whether other therapies at the centre could help alongside psychology support.

  4. Support and review

Child counselling, emotional support and parent guidance continue step by step, and we review progress with you regularly.

Questions parents ask

How do I know if my child needs psychology support?

If your child's feelings or behaviour are worrying you, or affecting home, school or friendships, it is worth talking to us. Many families come simply because something feels different. An early conversation can help you understand what is going on and what support might help.

My child is very young. Can they still benefit?

Yes. With young children, sessions are built around play rather than long conversations. Play helps children show what they feel, even before they can explain it in words. We also work closely with parents, as you are the most important support in your child's life.

Will I be involved in the sessions?

Yes, parents are a key part of the process. We share what we observe, explain things in plain language and offer guidance and counselling you can use in everyday routines. Working together helps your child feel supported at home as well as at the centre.

How is this different from behaviour therapy?

Child psychology focuses on feelings, worries and emotional wellbeing, and on understanding what sits behind a behaviour. Behaviour therapy uses structured, step-by-step methods to build positive behaviour and daily skills. Many children benefit from both, and we will talk with you about what suits your child.
